After Party

22 Jul

So we knew after the show the plan was dinner, then hitting up a karaoke joint in Hongdae. As I’ve mentioned  before, Karaoke in Korea is very different than our American version. In Korea they use whats called a Noraebang, (singing room) which is a private room for you and your friends to belt out your favorite jams. Tambourines included free of charge. :)

So the ladies asked me if I’d do their make up for them, so naturally I squeed with delight and said of course! First up: Miranda. She wanted a smoky eye and dramatic look, so I went with dark golds and purples. I gave her a Kim Kardashian look (but less slutty).

Next up, Yun wanted a soft, natural look. So we did all rusts, raisins, and browns to match her complexion and the almond shape of her eyes. I added some white below the eyes to make them appear more open (upon her request) and then finished off with a light pink lip gloss.

God knows I love playing with makeup! Here’s a shot of me doing just a full face foundation and coverage with Betty.

All business

After we were all dolled up, we headed out to the show opening. You can check out my previous post for the skinny on how that went down. We headed out for a good ol’ fashion Korean BBQ meal, then it was off to Hongdae, the party capital of Seoul, for some karaoke shenanigans. Oh…and they were plentiful.

We hit up a Noraebang called Luxury Noraebang. All the rooms are themed like bedroom/living rooms and its a real fancy type of place. :) When we got there, it was pretty busy, so we had to wait for a bit. Since everyone had already been enjoying soju, makju, and mokoli (all korean alcohol) we were in full on goofy mode.

Finally we made it into the karaoke room and it was a nice set up! We jumped right into singing and having a good time!

Belting out sweet Korean Jams!

We had a BLAST and sang non stop for a bout 2 hours. My throat still kind of hurts. Check out this video I put together of some of the stuff we caught on film. It’s long, but it’s so fun!!!

After we left the Noraebang we went looking for more places to drink some beers and have a good time. We hit up a local bar called Ocean, chatted about life and art, and nursed a great buzz. After leaving Ocean, we went looking for more trouble…and actually found some we weren’t looking for…

Intense

Just across the street from us, this fire erupted. It was extremely scary because all the buildings surrounding this one were full of people having dinner, dancing, singing….no idea this was just beside them. We stood back and snapped a few shots before the fire started causing small exsplosions and sparks. Then it was time to roll out. Still praying no one was hurt, and everyone got out ok.

By this point it was close to 3am, and the subway doesn’t start running again until 6. So, we found another spot to enjoy some Korean rice wine, and hang out. When that joint closed down at 4, we strolled through Hongdae, beat all the shit just like all the other all-nighters, and stumbled across a Korean BBQ place that was open. By this point most everyone was pretty wiped out. So we had some delicious pork and kimchi, watched the sun come up, and waited for the subway.

I’m by no means an all night kind of gal, but it was fun to experience this part of Korean culture. The night life is big here, and getting the opportunity to enjoy it with my new friends was a total blast. We made it back to the dorms by about 7:15…and I was hurtin like a big dog. I crashed out immediately, victory rolls still intact. Good times for sure!

Until next time loves!!!!
